Denmark-Copenhagen

Velkommen til København…
It is the capital city of Denmark! Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. It was originally known as the Viking fishing village.
Landed at the Copenhagen Airport -Københavns Lufthavn. It is a very well connected Airport. We exited to the metro ticket station bought 3 tickets and moved to the underground platform which was literally a 5min walk!
We had pre booked at Hotel near the new harbour (Nyhavn) and the promenade that hosts the famous statue of Little Mermaid. The hotel is called Hotel Østerport. We chose the hotel for its proximity to the metro stations and the bus stops. Some pretty pictures that i took of the hotel. It was a reasonable hotel fo Rs 7000/- (Approx) per night.Does not include meals.

It was 6pm when we had reached the hotel and were already excited to see my favourite waterfront in the entire world! (wish i could see the beautiful homes from the inside and also settle down there). We hopped on to a metro that took us to the nearest station Kongens Nytorv an another 5-6mins beautiful walk we came to the promenade of Nyhavn. The station has a direct access to the store Magasin du Nord. Its written in big and bright, that is your landmark if you get lost (it was for us as we have no means of communication)..

Nyhavn
Nyhavn is a 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stretching from Kongens Nytorv to the harbour front just south of the Royal Playhouse, it is lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants
The Nyhavn has the most beautiful Twilight which in the best time of the year lasts more than an hour.(The picture of the sunset is taken at 20:30).There are many cafes and restaurant serving alcohol and classic fish and chips and meatballs and spaghetti all along! I settled down with Churros dipped in chocolate sauce and a choice of ice-cream which i took was vanilla chocolate bites! it was a bomb! Took a while to finish!

Took a bus back had had a good night’s sleep!I got a bunk bed to sleep in! Ofcourse i took the upper berth it took 2 of us to pull me up! Pheww!! Good Night!
Day 2
We woke up well! After a quick round of coffee and some croissants we set to look at the places that we could travel near by.We thought of looking a the Little mermaid! We are all familiar with the story of Little mermaid ain’t we!But very few know the real story and how sad it is in reality!

Little mermaid
Little mermaid is a story by fellow Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.Original story of little mermaid (Pre-Disney version) is far from happy ending and like this picture,Little mermaid dies sad and lonely having converted into a human for the prince she loved. Prince ends up marrying someone else and she becomes sea foam.
As it happens that the area where little mermaid is situated is called the Langelinie. It was at a 10 min walking distance from the hotel!A beautiful scenic walk! We loved the gardens and the waterfront! It was absolute worth the effort!

While walking around the Langelinie area we also came across these beautiful gardens, they felt as if we were walking in royal palace gardens! The lakes were emerald green reflecting the surroundings.

GWLP! Learns that..
- Travel is extremely easy in Copenhagen! There is one pass for all public transport services which you can easily buy!
- Bicycles are very popular and you can rent them too.
- Currency is Danish kroners! but they accept swedish, norewegian kroner as well! They also accept Euros as official payments however they will return Danish Kroners only! Credit cards are the best way to make payments!
- Hot dogs are their street food snacks and a must have!
- It can rain absolutely anytime and is very windy! Keep wind-cheaters handy!
I will also be covering rest of the city on my return journey from the cruise. But you can also visit these places when at Copenhagen.

We entered the hotel packed our bags for an onward journey of a lifetime! The Norwegian Cruise Liner-Getaway! I will be covering the Cruise journey separately as it was so special and grand that its a hero in itself! Also, you can see why we have not eaten a lot since time we left Mumbai, because we are saving our appetite for the meals yet to come!
Let’s board the cruise liner now and get some brilliant food and sail to Germany by tomorrow morning 8am!
